Orange Bullfinch

With its bright orange body and prominent black “mask”, wings and tail, the Orange Bullfinch Pyrrhula aurantiaca has a limited range in northern India and northern Pakistan and is considered by some naturalists to be the crown jewel of Kashmir’s avifauna. During its breeding season, it vanishes into the fir and pine forests in the mountainous region, and in winters, can be found in forests at lower elevations – some even spotted right outside Srinagar!
