Kashmir Flycatcher, Srinagar

A small and stubby bird with a highly restricted range, the Kashmir Flycatcher breeds in parts of northwestern Himalaya and winters in remote, hilly forests in southern India and Sri Lanka. The female and juveniles are uniform grey. The male develops a bright orange breast, which gradually merges with their pale underbelly. It breeds in forests between 1,800-2,700 m. altitude, preferring areas with a thick undergrowth. In winters, it can be found at the edges of forests, or sometimes even in lush orchards and gardens.
