Green Carbon
Kushal Gangopadhyay, April 2007, Kalimpong, West Bengal – Green Carbon: Forests have been described as ‘green carbon’. When forest produce is cut for urban consumption, it aggravates climate change. Deforestation is responsible for approximately 26 per cent of all the CO2 released into the atmosphere. Yet our government has no fuel wood policy, our forest departments are poorly funded and equipped and our people are left at the mercy of floods and drought-related disasters.
