Bengal monitor lizard Varanus bengalensis
When Sounak Datta saw this Bengal monitor lizard Varanus bengalensis approaching two cats eating rice, he anticipated an aggressive attack. But to his, and the cats’, astonishment, the lizard instead pushed them away to eat the rice! After a half-hearted tussle, the cats left the lizard to its meal. Decreasing natural habitats could change cross-species relationships and induce uncommon behaviour.
