Pit Viper: “This stunning Pope’s pit viper coiled on a tree, near Sohra, Meghalaya, was rescued from a village road. I captured this photo when it was safely released and noticed instantly how well it managed to camouflage itself in its natural surroundings. The wide-angle shot offers the viewer some context of the habitat it prefers. Snakes are misunderstood creatures. But once people understand the reptiles’ behaviour, they begin to look beyond their primal fear. The rescue of snakes and photographing them share a common imperative – understand their behaviour, approach them calmly and don’t make any sudden movements.”
