<p><strong>Malayan Night Heron:</strong> <em>&ldquo;I first saw the Malayan Night Heron in 2013, at the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, while searching for another rare bird, the Sri Lanka Bay Owl. Since then, I had been looking for it in other habitats in the Northeast including Manas where I heard, but was unable to spot it. I did manage a small glimpse in the Nicobar Islands, but was unable to obtain any photographic record. Then, in April 2019, I saw the elusive bird in Thattekad again, in the glory of all its breeding plumage as it hunted for fish in a small pond. Without exiting our vehicle, I managed to shoot this image using a 500 mm. lens!&rdquo;</em></p> <p><strong>Jainy Kuriakose</strong> developed an interest in birds from a young age, growing up close to the Dr. S&aacute;lim Ali Bird Sanctuary in Thattekad, Kerala. She has succeeded in photographing an astounding 1,100 Indian birds and travels worldwide in search of avian wonders.</p>
