Indian White-eye

Some birds like the Red Avadavats (previous slide) and Indian White-eyes Zosterops palpebrosus have adapted to the noise and bustle of cities. Here, one of the latter alights on a bottle brush Callistemon sp. in Kolkata. Formerly known as the Oriental white-eye, this small passerine is so named for its white spectacle-like markings. They move in flocks and have been seen in a variety of habitats, domestic gardens, scrublands and even dense human settlements.
