Hide and Seek

The smallest of the bustard family, the Lesser Florican Sypheotides indicus, is disappearing on account of degrading habitats and increasingly intrusive human presence. A recent, robust survey across much of its range estimated just 340 displaying males, underscoring its precarious status. Dependent on native monsoon grasslands for breeding displays and nesting, its survival is intricately linked to the health of these rapidly vanishing ecosystems.
