With plants come innumerable smaller lifeforms. The forest feels alive with an intelligent awareness, almost as if the branches, twigs, and leaves have sprouted eyes. Peer closer, and one might find these stalky eyes attached to a pair of filigreed wings… it is an owlfly of the family Ascalaphidae, holding on intently to the plant stem, taking off in slow-motion only to disappear into the dense undergrowth.
