Communal Love
Aradhana Madappa, Communal love. Malabar gliding frogs Rhacophorus malabaricus are endemic to the Western Ghats. Every monsoon, the ghats echo with the loud advertising croaks of the male. Attracted to the calls, females will choose a male of their liking, and build a nest on a leaf overhanging a waterbody. The seminal fluid released by the male is whipped into a foam by the female. The foam also acts as a glue to bind more leaves making a nest. Sometimes, like here, three to four males (smaller in size than the female) try to mate with the same female!  Location: Kodagu, Karnataka
