A Stick in Hand...
<p>Borsola villagers were in for a rude surprise when they walked into their paddy fields on a winter morning in 2022. A female tiger had strayed from Assam’s Orang Tiger Reserve and had taken refuge in the dry paddy. The ensuing conflict was captured by the photographer, as humans, tiger and cattle ran helter skelter in the field. According to the 2018 All India Tiger Estimation, 35 per cent of tigers are found outside Protected Areas. Although we have 50 tiger reserves in 18 states, these forests are often islands and the total land area is a mere 2.21 per cent of Protected Areas in India.
